Background
Jim Baker is a lifelong student of great design and a passionate advocate for building homes that feel timeless, grounded, and deeply human. His career spans nearly every corner of the architecture and construction world. Having served as a draftsman, designer, builder, and building code lobbyist, Jim brings a rare, 360-degree understanding of how beautiful spaces come to life. This holistic background allows him to anticipate the complexities of a project long before they arise, giving Blue Star clients a unique sense of confidence and clarity.
As General Manager, Jim builds upon the strong foundation of excellence at Blue Star by leading our teams with a laser focus on the client experience. He understands that while the finished home is the goal, the journey to get there matters just as much. By elevating our processes and advocating for craftsmanship over the ordinary, Jim ensures that every project is managed with the same integrity and care he would give his own home.
An award-winning custom designer and builder, Jim founded McNeill Baker Design Associates to honor the legacy of his mentor, Rob Morris of Morris Day Design Build. Today, he channels that same spirit of resilience and mentorship into the Blue Star team. His leadership helps bridge the gap between visionary design and practical construction, ensuring that every detail is executed with precision.
A natural consensus builder, Jim brings his leadership talents to the local community as well. He serves as an alumni chapter advisor for Phi Kappa Tau’s Beta Omicron Chapter and is an active participant with the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art and the Professional Remodelers Organization Mid-Atlantic Chapter. A Maryland native and University of Maryland graduate, Jim studied communications, leadership development, and architecture.
After Hours
Outside the office, he finds joy in biking, amateur bodybuilding, and exploring the Chesapeake Bay by kayak or paddleboard. He is always seeking the perfect balance between strength, beauty, and a sense of place.
