This home gave us opportunities to work through several structural challenges, but also provided numerous opportunities for our team to transform this house from top to bottom into a comfortable home filled with contemporary finishes. Located in Historic Logan Circle, we worked within the confines of regulations and neighborhood approvals to add a third floor addition that would not be seen from the street. What was formerly a two unit building is now a large home with a rooftop terrace featuring a floor plan designed to suit the owners’ unique needs.
Walls of glass windows and doors bring light into each level and the rear addition extends the new living space beyond the third floor, ensuring there’s ample open living space as well as privacy. The dining room features a six foot wide barn door that provides the opportunity to close it off from the kitchen as necessary. Built-in bookcases accentuate the revamped historic fireplace and the mosaic marble tile floor in the entry and mud room provides a splash of art deco design. Wide, long plank white oak floors tie together modern design choices throughout the house. We recommended an eclectic mix of materials and finishes that make the third floor a hub of family life with a sophisticated, yet enjoyable, primary suite, office and media room with a penthouse view.
