This project focused on reimagining a 1972 “modern” addition to an 1850s historic farmhouse, blending the home’s original charm with today’s standards. The homeowners wanted more natural light and a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The expanded addition now centers around a redesigned kitchen and living area, flooded with light through oversized Marvin windows and large sliding doors that open to the outdoors. Red oak floors, chosen to match the original home’s character, flow seamlessly throughout, while custom built-ins display the homeowners’ cherished book collection.
We updated all the bathrooms, adding a new one, and refinished the floors to ensure consistency with the original wood. Outside, we created a custom deck, framed jacuzzi, raised planters, and a new patio, transforming the backyard into a private oasis. The new structural configuration maximizes natural light and optimizes the functional use of space. The result is a refined blend of style, function, and timeless charm, ideal for both everyday living and entertaining. This design perfectly reflects the client’s vision of a bright, welcoming home that honors its history while embracing modern living.
